Welcome to the Lady Hurricanes website. We seek to develop young girls and young ladies as student/athletes of good character, sportsmanship, and academic excellence. Our goal with basketball is to develop and prepare our young girls to play on the high school level and for our high school young ladies to play on the college level if they desire.
Lady Hurricanes Basketball Program (LHBP) was started in 2008 by Coach Gary W. Lewis who has a tireless passion for the game of basketball and a vision for girls’ basketball in Chicago and the south suburban Chicago area. Starting with one 6thand 7th grade girl’s team, Lady Hurricanes Basketball Program expanded in late 2008 to a 5th, 6th, 7th, high school, and 9U - 16U AAU teams. Lady Hurricanes Basketball Program is a not for profit program. Lady Hurricanes Basketball Program is a competitive developmental girls' travel basketball program. Lady Hurricanes Basketball teams compete in suburban Chicago, Chicago leagues, spring and summer AAU(Amateur Athletic Union, FTG(For the Game), NAYS(North American Youth Sports) and many other tournaments. Coaches seek to develop girls and give fair amounts of playing time based on talent, work ethic, practice, and game attendance. The AAU teams are purely competitive placing the best talent on the teams they field. These AAU teams will compete on the state and national levels. We seek to develop ALL players in the program to their fullest potential proportional to their own commitment and work ethic. Lady Hurricanes Basketball Program offers its players many more game and game experiences than most traveling teams. Our teams will generally have over 80 game opportunities from November to August of our travel season. Based on the history of other programs, the vast majority of girls that have played at least two years with a program team at the middle school level will earn the right play up in their high school program to the sophomore or varsity level as freshmen.
